The Position
Redeemer University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Religion & Theology beginning in July 2027. We seek candidates who are aligned with and passionate about Redeemer’s mission of approaching teaching and scholarship from a Reformed Christian perspective. The ideal candidate will have a track record of excellence in undergraduate teaching.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach courses in our Religion & Theology programs, our Core program, and our projected MA in Reformed Thought. Examples of possible courses in Religion & Theology and the MA include Reformed Ethics, Philosophy of Religion, World Religions, History of Reformed Thought, and Reformed Social Ethics. Examples of possible Core courses include The Drama of Scripture, Introduction to Christian Worldview, and Faith & Philosophy.
Tenure-track faculty have the opportunity to apply for one of three faculty tracks: Scholar-teacher (focusing on teaching), Scholar-researcher (providing more space for research), and Scholar-professional (providing space for continuation of professional practice in an area such as law). This position carries a teaching load of 6 to 8 courses per year, depending on the track.
Requirements
Preferred Skills and Attributes
In addition to a vibrant Christian faith consistent with the Reformed character of the university, candidates should possess:
- Reformed theological convictions and a knowledgeable Reformed approach to their area of specialization. The ideal candidate will also possess deep familiarity with the neo-Calvinist stream of the Reformed tradition.
- A PhD or be near completion of a PhD. A specialization in historical theology or philosophical theology is preferred, but we would also consider excellent candidates with a specialization in practical theology. Expertise in theological ethics is an asset.
- A track record of excellence in undergraduate teaching, or evidence of the potential for it.
Interest in teaching courses in Redeemer’s Core program and our projected MA in Reformed Thought. - Academic leadership experience or potential is also an asset for this position.
The Application Process
As a liberal arts and sciences university rooted in the Reformed tradition of Christianity, we seek candidates committed to this framework. Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching quality, the names of three individuals who have agreed to provide letters of reference should the applicant advance to a later stage of the process.
In addition to these materials, applicants must include a 1-page to 2-page document describing their own Christian faith commitment and practice, its alignment with Redeemer’s mission and its impact on their academic and professional work. A range of qualifications will be evaluated, including distinguishing characteristics that demonstrate congruence with Redeemer’s identity as a university in the Protestant and particularly Reformed Christian tradition.
