Essential Job FunctionsThis position reports to the Director of Enterprise Applications and Integrations and functions in a hybrid role as a Data Integration Specialist and a Database Administrator, serving as a member of the Enterprise Applications and Integrations team.
The data integration component of this position is responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of infrastructure and complex technical integrations across multiple systems, including in-house, enterprise application and cloud-hosted systems. This position provides day-to-day maintenance and long-term assistance to ensure subsystems and infrastructure function together and business needs are met.
The database component of this position is responsible for the administration of Microsoft SQL Server database management software, MySQL software, Oracle software, database connectivity software, and other related software on database servers running Windows operating systems. This position will work closely with the Office of Institutional Strategy and Effectiveness to assist in making data more available and connected for reporting and strategic planning for the University.
What You'll Do- Integrates, identifies, troubleshoots, monitors, and resolves complex, routine, and varied supported services, systems, network, and application problems according to established processes and procedures.
- Serves as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, identifies needs, provides solution options, and communicates issue updates and resolutions.
- Participates in the evaluation of new vendor software releases and impact. Documents and communicates system enhancements or changes.
- Assists with the planning and coordination of system resources, upgrades, security, implementations, and integrations.
- Configures, maintains, upgrades, develops, and tests IT systems and services in alignment with industry best practices.
- Runs, maintains, and operates technical systems and infrastructure.
- Plans and directs staff implementation of technical projects as needed.
- Administer Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL database management system software, including the acquisition, installation, and implementation of releases and upgrades.
- Design data models and create databases for Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL.
- Administer and create Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL databases for enterprise applications such as Mercury, ImageNow and Ungerboeck USI. Provide support for upgrades as needed.
- Design, implement, and execute database backup and recovery procedures. Evaluate backup and recovery scenarios to choose the appropriate strategy to meet availability agreements.
- Perform debugging, problem analysis, and problem resolution of database management systems.
- Perform performance and tuning of database management systems. Design and create indexes to produce more efficient paths and faster execution of SQL statements.
- Recommend standards, policies and guidelines to ensure database access, database security and data integrity.
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of database integration tools (e.g., Informatica)
- Knowledge of SQL and relational databases (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server)
- Knowledge of system reporting tools (e.g., SQL Developer, Tableau, Peoplesoft Query)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Experience in a higher education environment
- Experience loading data into large enterprise applications (e.g., Salesforce)
- Skill using troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques
- Ability to learn new technical skills and concepts quickly with minimal training and a high level of self-motivation and attention to details
- Ability to work independently as well as contribute and collaborate as part of a team
- Experience supporting, maintaining and monitoring complex database systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL or Oracle
- Experience managing and optimizing databases in AWS

Conditions of AppointmentPosition is a full-time Academic Staff appointment. The standard schedule for this position is 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position may have the option to work on-campus or a hybrid schedule, subject to approved telecommuting request. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). Compensation and BenefitsSALARY INFORMATIONMinimum salary of $80,000.
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
BENEFIT DETAILSThe UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.
In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
