- University of Michigan School of Social Work Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship/Assistant Professor
Description
About the Program
In this program, the University of Michigan offers postdoctoral research fellowships coupled with faculty mentoring, professional development, and academic networking opportunities. Eligibility for the fellowship may vary by year.
The University seeks applicants whose research, teaching, and service will, as determined by the University of Michigan and in accordance with law, contribute to the core values of the University of Michigan, and to equal opportunity in higher education. The program is particularly interested in scholars with the potential to bring to their research and teaching the critical perspective that comes from their non-traditional educational background or understanding of the experiences of groups historically underrepresented in higher education. Candidates will be evaluated on fit with current needs and strengths of the institution and future funding possibilities.
The University of Michigan views these postdoctoral fellowships as providing an exceptional opportunity to recruit potential new faculty to tenure-track positions at the University by offering either a postdoc alone or a combined postdoc and tenure track faculty appointment to follow.
Specific Guidelines for School of Social Work Applicants
For 2025-26, the School of Social Work is recruiting for candidates who will transition into tenure track faculty positions following the postdoctoral period. Preference will be given to candidates holding the MSW degree and a PhD in social work or a related discipline, and whose research and/or teaching interests fall into one or more of the following areas:
- Implementation science and related methods for understanding the translation and scaling of new interventions into mainstream practice and policy;
- Leadership and management in organizations relevant to the field of social work;
- Interpersonal practice in integrated health, mental health, and/or substance abuse.
