The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle is recruiting for one full-time, Cardiac Surgeon faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank without tenure by reason of funding (WOT). Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1 – June 30). Associate Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The salary and rank are commensurate with training, qualifications, and experience, with an expected start date in Fall 2026.
At the rank of Assistant Professor (WOT), the base salary range for this position will be: $35,000 - $39,167 per month ($420,000 - $470,004 annually). At the rank of Associate Professor (WOT), the base salary range for this position will be: $47,917 - $55,000 per month ($575,004 - $660,000 annually). Base salaries at all ranks will be commensurate with candidate experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through UWP. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

The successful candidate will have opportunities in heart and lung transplantation and ventricular assist device implantation. In addition, this position will perform general cardiac surgery procedures as part of the Section of Cardiac Surgery and will be expected to take in an equal share of call responsibilities. The primary site of practice for this position is the University of Washington Medical Center-(UWMC) Montlake campus. Patient care may also be provided at or coordinated with Harborview Medical Center, UWMC-Northwest campus, and the Veteran’s Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System. The cardiac surgeon will also be responsible for teaching and training of residents, fellows and medical students, as well as participation in quality metrics, clinical and/or basic science research. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
Qualifications
Requirements for this position include:
- MD degree (or foreign equivalent)
- Board certified or board eligible (or foreign equivalent) by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery
- Eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
