Job Description
The Department of Political Science at Hope College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Comparative Politics.
We seek a scholar whose work engages substantive areas of Comparative Politics, with particular interest in candidates whose regional expertise includes the Middle East, Latin America, Europe, or Asia, or whose research focuses on war and conflict, migration, or human rights. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach a range of courses in Comparative Politics at both introductory and advanced levels and will contribute to strengthening the department's methods curriculum, including courses in research design, qualitative and/or quantitative methods.
Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and an active research agenda. We particularly welcome candidates whose research and teaching complement existing departmental strengths. Candidates should also have an appreciation and understanding of diversity broadly understood and demonstrated experience working with diverse students.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching undergraduate courses in introductory and advanced Comparative Politics and research methods;
- Maintaining an active program of scholarship;
- Advising and mentoring undergraduate students;
- Participating in departmental governance and campus-wide service;
- Leading Hope's highly regarded Washington, DC semester program on a rotational basis. (Roughly one spring semester every six years.)

Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Political Science (or related field) by August 2026;
- Demonstrated or potential excellence in undergraduate teaching;
- Active scholarly agenda;
- Commitment to the mission of Hope College and the liberal arts tradition, including a willingness to engage with students across the campus community.
