South Carolina Washington Semester Program, University of South Carolina
The South Carolina Honors College at the University of South Carolina invites applications for an adjunct instructor and program manager for approximately 16 students enrolled in South Carolina Washington Semester Program (WSP) in our nation’s capital.
Adjunct Instructor
This is a part-time, non-tenure track position. The instructor will teach a 3-credit hour, in-person course in the fall and spring semesters beginning January 2026. Classroom space is provided in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, near the town house where the students live. Course should be taught through the lens of the candidate’s academic discipline, while allowing students to experience Washington D.C. and the surrounding areas. Course should include regular class time, but out-of-classroom experiences should be frequent and reflect course content. Course must be taught in the evening, one night a week, and includes beyond the classroom activities that will take place during class time or, perhaps, on the weekend. Students are engaged in full-time internships Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The instructor will work closely with the South Carolina Washington Semester Program manager to schedule outside of the classroom activities.
Requirements
Master’s degree required. Terminal degree (MFA, JD, Ph.D., Ed.D. preferred).
Previous teaching experience strongly preferred.
Candidate should have deep knowledge of the Washington D.C. area, and a passion for engaging students in beyond the classroom experiences to enhance course content.
Candidate should also possess the ability to learn and use university software systems, have deep knowledge of the Washington D.C. area., assign and grade all components of the DC Experience course, utilizing USC’s course management system, Blackboard Ultra, and input final grades using Ellucian Banner.
